RSS Podcasting

Podcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio programs or music videos, over the Internet using either the RSS or Atom syndication formats, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers. The term podcast, like 'radio', can mean both the content and the method of delivery. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster. Though podcasters' web sites may also offer direct download or streaming of their files; a podcast however is distinguished by its ability to be downloaded automatically using software capable of reading RSS or Atom feeds

The comments came after the Japanese government began investigating a possible battery defect in the Nano.

Will it be a true podcast or just a clickable MP3?

In an effort to re-establish open communication with the public, St. Charles School District 303 will soon begin audio Webcasts of its board meetings.

Under the plan, a person could visit the District 303 Web site and click on a link that would begin audio playback of a meeting over the computer.

Chrons Podcast
Last week, Abbott launched the first in a series of podcasts about how to live with Crohns disease. The online radio shows feature unbranded healthcare information, and are part of Abbott's initiative to communicate directly with patients with Crohns disease.

People are going online to get information about all sorts of things, including chronic diseases, said Michelle Johnson, manager of public affairs for Abbott. Podcasting seemed to work particularly well for Crohn's disease.

According to Johnson, many people with Crohns are first diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 35—a key demographic for podcast users. It just made sense to create an online educational resource to give patients information in a manner that they are used to searching for.

European Music Rules Could Change
Currently, iTunes has to negotiate the right to sell music with a different society in every European state.

The European Commission says musicians should be free to choose from among the many collecting societies that handle music royalties in the 27-nation EU.
The ruling will also let the societies license music in more than one country.

Music rights are sold separately in each EU member state. As a result, the US market for internet music downloads is much bigger.

Catholic Podcasting Presentations
During the Catholic New Media Celebration, two separate presentations were given on the subject of podcasts, a Web-based audio broadcast and a new and relatively easy way to become involved in the new media.

Father Roderick Vonhogen, host of the Daily Breakfast and Catholic Insider podcasts and known by some as the original podcasting priest, led a presentation on how to get started in podcasting to go along with the demonstrations that experts were providing outside the exhibition hall at the Georgia International Convention Center. Several hundred people took part in the new media event June 22, which followed the annual Eucharistic Congress of the Archdiocese of Atlanta held June 20-21. The new media event was hosted by Star Quest Production Network.

Assisted by an informative PowerPoint display, Father Vonhögen showed the crowd Catholic Podcasting in Seven Easy Steps.

The first suggestion the Dutch priest offered for anyone interested in starting a podcast was to pick your passion.

Innovative Ways to Market
Marketing is a three-syllable word that seems so simple, yet encompasses so much. Marketing is a multi-faceted approach to promoting a product or service. Both traditional and unconventional marketing methods have a place in the small business world. Marketing helps small businesses focus on building their brand and identity.

There are few limitations to marketing options, and the opportunities listed here are just a few that will generally result in a decent ROI (Return On Investment) for most small businesses. That said, do not be afraid to be creative -- no one knows or understands a small business like its owner, so think outside of the box and don't be afraid to experiment.

Royalty Fees Said To Have Piled Up
A federal judge ruled Thursday that the American Society of Composers, Artists, and Performers aka ASCAP may be owed as much as $100 million by America Online, Yahoo and Real Networks for the use of copyrighted material in streaming audio on the Web.

In a 153-page decision, U.S. District Court Judge William Conner adopted ASCAPs proposed method for calculating the cost of a blanket license -- a percentage of each companys music revenues, but rejected the organization's pitch for a flat three percent fee, which the court felt was too high.
